WEEKEND UPDATE.........

On Friday the floor trusses were finished and we can now walk up to the 2nd floor and see the view. We finally get the feeling of a house with the ceiling in the great room overhead. First floor bathroom is framed in and looking through the great room from the front entry. Meanwhile up on 2nd floor Shawn is explaining to Jaimi and Brett the ceiling height in the master bedroom. Then off to Auke Bay harbor to load up the Seraphina.

LET THE FRAMING BEGIN....... AGAIN.........

After a brief issue with the building permit and a stop work order from the city, framing resumed today. The third wall is up framing the patio door off the dining area, windows in kitchen and bathroom. The roofing material and windows have been ordered, final decision on cedar siding made. Jaimi and Brett arrive tomorrow from Minnesota with coolers of sweet corn, a fishing trip is scheduled for the weekend to fill up the coolers for their return trip in 10 days. Hope to have another big fish picture, Seraphina stories and a 2nd story built by the next post.

A PERFECT SATURDAY........

To be rounding Point Retreat on the way back to Auke Bay. A quick trip to the house found the 2nd wall framing the great room windows built. And yes Shawn did land the "big one" a 100 lb halibut, 7 gallons of shrimp in the cooler and a Packer/Seahawk game on TV to watch................. a perfect day.

LET THE FRAMING BEGIN...........

The lumber arrived on the barge and was delivered to the site on Wednesday. Pictures were taken early morning Thursday, at noon and then at the end of the day looking through what will be the back door. The weather semi cooperated with most of the heavy rains over night.

Now for a quick fishing trip over the weekend, can't wait to see how things will look when we get back on Sunday. Hope to have a huge halibut picture to post too!

A PERFECT DAY..........

To pour concrete, Monday was sunny and hot by Juneau standards. The clouds and rain held off until late Tuesday afternoon. Shawn's checking the location of the utility pipes, I hate to tell him it's a little too late if not in the right place. The ground around the pad has been smoothed out for the deck and walkways. The lumber is on the barge expected to arrive on Tuesday, framing will begin on Wednesday or Thursday.

ALMOST DONE...........

Site prep is now in the final stages. Concrete is scheduled to be poured on Monday the 15th. First picture shows the trenches being dug for the utility pipes. The second the plumbers installing the in-floor heating system. And the third at the end of the day with the heating system in place. Now for a building inspection and the cement trucks can roll. Weather forecast is for sunny and 70's, should be perfect.
The lot was a challenge as a building site which was anticipated, but until the digging began and the set backs marked it wasn't known exactly what we were dealing with. Without blasting the rock off and spending lots of $$ or bringing in tons of fill and spending lots of $$, the plans have been downsized for the house and parking pad with the shop.
So at this time the shop is on hold, the good news is there will be room to park and more importantly turn around. Fill will be brought in down near road side for a possible shop in the future. If that doesn't work a shop will be built with Scott (Shawn's twin who lives within walking distance) at his house.
Hope to have an exciting update on Monday, enjoy the weekend!

A LONG TWO WEEKS.........

Spent packing, loading the U-Haul (thank you; Scott, Kurt, Jason, Jarrod, and Jeff) having a few beers, cleaning, saying good-bye to the house, moving to the apartment, and a fish picture for Fabienne! Will have an update on the building saga tomorrow.
